| Description: | The performance begins with a tribute to the goddesses and women heroines depicted in the classical Indian dance forms of Bharet Natyam and Kuchipudi. The dancers are accompanied by taped music. The second segment, three musicians and a narrator join in a contemporary piece protraying Indian women's poetry through the symbolic imagery of Bharat Natyam. Lasya contrasts the common images of Indian women--the worship of mythical goddesses in classical dance -- with the realities of women in everyday life. | |
