|Description:||The 23rd annual Anick Young People's Performing Arts Festival Competition a call for advanced high school musicians in the greater Marlborough area. Applications are available at http://mpl-friends.org/event_flyers/2020_yppa_Info_and_application_rev.pdf
Individual musicians or ensembles of up to five musicians may audition. Contestants should plan a recital presentation of about 15 minutes. They should be prepared to play at least a 5-10 minute representative portion of their recital piece(s) during the audition. Two copies of the music to be
performed must be brought to the audition for the judges. Students will not be expected to perform their music from memory. Contestants will be notified of the results within seven days.
Up to five finalists will be selected to perform at the Anick Young People's Performing Arts Festival Concert on Wednesday evening, May 27, 2020. Each of the finalists will receive a prize of $125-$150, depending upon the number of finalists. Only two finalists per instrument or ethnic style will be chosen. Musicians who have been finalists in this competition in previous years are not eligible to compete.
At the performance on May 27, each finalist will be expected to perform for about fifteen minutes. Contestants must provide their own accompanists for the performance, where applicable. Sheet music will be allowed during the performance.
Applications are due no later than February 28, 2020. Only the first fifteen qualified contestants will be invited to audition before a panel of 3 judges.
The competition and concert are named in honor of the founder of the Young People's Performing Arts Festival Concerts, Connie Anick, who served as the Music Chair for the Friends of the Marlborough Public Library from 1997-2007.
