Description: What do we know about the shape of the universe? How are the galaxies arranged with respect to one another? Is there a center, and, if so, what is located there? And how do we know all of this, anyway? Space scientists, astronomers, and physicists have been assembling pieces of these big puzzles for many years. Professor Blatt will present a few of their findings, along with some of the open questions still waiting to be answered.
Les Blatt has done research in nuclear physics, astrophysics, and science education at The Ohio State University, Indiana University, Clark University, and l'Université Louis Pasteur, and is a former physics department chair and dean of graduate studies and research. He currently teaches mini-courses at the WISE Program (Worcester Institute for Senior Education) at Assumption College, and sings with the Worcester Chorus.
