|Description:||Catherine Marenghi, author of the acclaimed Milford-based memoir Glad Farm, will deliver a timely presentation on the Italian immigrant story, and a discussion on why it is so relevant today.
Ms. Marenghi, whose 2016 launch of her popular memoir at Milford Town Library drew a standing-room-only crowd, is currently working on a prequel to her memoir, based in part on her grandparents' voyage from the province of Parma, Italy, to Milford, Massachusetts in the late 1890s.
"I am so grateful for the warm reception I received upon the launch of Glad Farm: A Memoir in Milford," Marenghi said. "I welcome the greater Milford community to a brief presentation on the story of Italian immigrants in Milford, part of the first great Italian diaspora.
"I also encourage everyone to bring their own family immigration stories to share with others. I truly believe that all immigrants to America, from every nation, have much in common. They all make the heartbreaking decision to leave their homeland, and they have an overwhelming desire to live the American dream, work hard, and build a better life for their families."
Sponsored by the Friends of the Milford Town Library, this event is free and open to the public.
