Description: Weisman, author of the memoir As I Live and Breathe, makes her fiction debut with We Are Gathered, the story of the interfaith wedding of Elizabeth, a recent Emory Law School graduate and member of one of Atlanta's elite Jewish families, to Hank, a gentile from elsewhere. Narrated by six of the one-hundred-and fifty guests at the ceremony-plus the mother of the bride-the novel veers from the expected account of a young couple and their challenges to become a rich tapestry of different voices, each commenting on the immediate events while recounting their own histories. This vivid and surprising cast includes Elizabeth's childhood best friend, now a slightly cynical film scout; her great-aunt, a Holocaust survivor still suffering the aftereffects of the trauma; and Elizabeth's mother, reflecting on her own youthful mistakes regarding love.
