Description: 10-101 Beginning Fiddle

This course will teach the basics of playing a fiddle. You will learn basic music reading, how to play some easy fiddle tunes, how to hold the fiddle and how to get good sound from the fiddle, what keys are and how to recognize them. Tips on what and how to practice will also be taught. Students need a good playing fiddle, a good violin bow, rosin for the bow an electronic violin tuner such as D'addario ns micro violin tuner are very helpful. Mel Bay Book: You Can Teach Yourself Fiddling by Craig Duncan ISBN-978-078-668-990-3 (available at Mel Bay, Barnes and Noble or Amazon -Approx. cost $15) Class is limited to 10 Students. 9 weeks/18 hours

Alan Filo has been fiddling for over 10 years. He has taught fiddling workshops for three years. Alan is a member of the Old Fiddlers Club of Rhode Island and the Quiet Corner Fiddlers and plays in a Civil War era band at Civil War re-enactments.
