Description: OpeningReception and Talk by Curator Anna Winestein: Russian Art of the Jewish Century
Members Free, Non-members $15 Please RSVP by October 10

The 20th century has been called by some the Jewish Century in light of the especially significant transformations and upheavals it brought to people who were either ethnically or religiously Jewish, or, after the founding of Israel, members of a Jewish nation. Curator Anna Winestein speaks about the creative legacy and expressive responses of art-makers of Jewish heritage who were variously connected with the Russian and Soviet empires. The talk will cover select artists from the Torchilin Collection as well as other figures of note who taught, influenced or inspired them. It will also touch on the complicated impact of the October Revolution of 1917 on Jewish artistic expression.
