Description: Instructor: Russell Bragg, Owner, Underwood Shade Nursery, North Attleboro, MA Shade is a ‘growing’ challenge for gardeners in the Northeast. Areas that grew hay and corn and cows in the 1930’s sprouted homes in the 50’s and 60’s. While the landscape of the region has changed, the scarcity of water has forced the nursery industry to gradually change over the years. No longer is the shade limited to hosta and rhododendron; specialist nurseries like Underwood can now help the homeowner realize their ambitions. Join Russ for this “Gardening under Shade” program that will provide a great deal of information for positive shade plant uses. Do mature trees frustrate your ambitions for a flowering border? Is your front yard the north side of a 4-story brownstone? Russ will show a selection of appropriate plants including perennials, ferns and grasses suited to a variety of shaded locations. He will provide detailed handouts including a garden planning guide and a comprehensive plant list. Bring your questions for him to answer!
